IGY announces further expansion into the Mediterranean
The international marina operator and developer has announced Marina di Porto Cervo as its second Mediterranean site, and it’s nineteenth worldwide…
IGY Marinas has taken another major step in its European expansion plans with the addition of Marina di Porto Cervo to its portfolio. The Italian marina, based in North Sardinia, is the nineteenth to join the marina behemoth’s impressive roster, which now spans 10 nations worldwide.
Marina di Porto Cervo, owned by Porto Cervo Marina S.R.L (PCM), is a 700-slip facility that offers berthing for yachts up to 160m in length. As of 27 February 2018, IGY Marinas will be supporting PCM in the management of the marina and shipyard operations, including marketing, branding and customer service.
“We are absolutely thrilled about the opportunity to work with a hugely famous marina and further develop what is already essentially a fantastic product,” says Kenny Jones, executive vice president of IGY Marinas. “We have a very good relationship with Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) and the Qataris, and we will be bringing a subtle IGY customer service tweak to the existing Italian sophistication.”
"You can’t just arrive and say this is or that needs changing without first appreciating and understanding why it needs to change."
“We work in 10 different countries with 10 different cultures, so we have to be sensitive with these moves,” continues Jones. “You can’t just arrive and say this is or that needs changing without first appreciating and understanding why it needs to change. Our imminent plans are to get to know the people and have the people get to know us – and then, hopefully, we can bring a subtle difference for the good and benefit of the yachts and apply some changes to the service levels.”
IGY Marinas made the decision to seriously consider locations in Europe and the Mediterranean nearly two years ago and has a few other facilities in the pipeline and great interest in expanding its network after great success in locations in the Americas.
“One of the key aspects of our business model has always been to bring fun for the crew and captains. This is something that we believe could improve in European locations, and in Porto Cervo we’re not going to hope that people have fun, we’re going to make sure they do,” Jones adds.
Porto Cervo Marina is located 130 nautical miles off the west coast of mainland Italy and offers high-speed fuelling, waste management, yacht services, provisioning, and world-class dining and shopping.
