Jean Boulle Luxury introduces first diamond coated multihull
Jean Boulle Luxury and Sunreef Yachts have announced the development of the first diamond coated multihull …
Jean Boulle Luxury (JBL), a subsidiary of the Jean Boulle Group, and Sunreef Yachts have announced that they will be applying Sun King Diamond Coating to Sunreef’s latest project, the 40 Open Sunreef Power, which is scheduled to be launched in summer 2018. The coating, which has previously been applied in the automotive and aviation markets, as well as debuting on a Keizer Yachts tender at Monaco Yacht Show 2017, combines Akzonobel’s superyacht finish with high-quality, ethically sourced diamonds. The application of the coating on a 40ft catamaran represents one step closer to seeing the finish applied on a 30m-plus superyacht.
“We’re delighted to announce this partnership with Sunreef Yachts, the leader in luxury catamaran building, to create the world’s first diamond coated multihull boat,” comments Bertrand Boulle, CEO of JBL. “We look forward to workin with Sunreef to create unique, exquisite boats that combing Sun King’s unsurpassed aesthetic brilliance with Sunreef’s innovative, high performance catamarans.”
The development of the marine version of the coating was a natural progression from the on-going partnership that JBL has with Akzonobel for the aviation market. According to JBL, unlike metallic coatings, which lose their radiance beyond a few metres, the diamond infused coating shows no signs of dulling at range. The proprietary process for the production of Sun King is patent pending with JBL.
“Sunreef Yachts creative quest for perfection is perpetual,” explains Francis Lapp, founder and president of Sunreef Yachts. “With this unique diamond hull finish we take another ig step forward and redefine ultimate luxury.”
While the current project is only 40ft, Sunreef’s range of motoryachts and sailing yachts extends up to 64m, although its largest delivered superyacht project to date is a 34.75m catamaran called Che. Perhaps Sun King will be used on board a larger vessel in the near future? As well as the project with Sunreef, JBL partnered with Oceanco, the northern European superyacht manufacturing behemoth, for MYS 2017. The projects and partnerships that have already been undertaken or engaged in provide a clear indication of this innovative coatings potential.
