Emirates Palace Marina reports increase in berth take-up

One of Abu Dhabi's newest marina facilities, the Emirates Palace Marina, has reported an increase in berthing requests. Its management has predicted that demand for berths will increase still further if the growth pattern in Dubai can be replicated in Abu Dhabi.…

Abu Dhabi-based Emirates Palace Marina has reported an increase in berth take-up.

The marina, which is situated within luxury hotel Emirate’s Palace’s new extensions, can accommodate 167 yachts up to 80m in length, with around 30 berths available for superyachts.  Marina manager, Captain Toby Haws says that berths are being taken up by guests in the hotel who want their superyachts nearby, and also by those viewing the hotel as a destination in its own right.

Haws explained:

"Emirates Palace marina is operating as a destination – its USP is that visiting superyachts can enjoy the benefits of the hotel and its concierge service.  We have even seen one owner ask for his yacht to be brought over from Dubai so he could enjoy seeing it from his hotel".

The UAE has witnessed an upsurge in marina developments in recent years, with the opening of the Wave in Oman in 2011 and Al Bandar Marina in Abu Dhabi in 2010 notable examples. This fact prompted a number of industry professionals at the 2011 Abu Dhabi Yacht Show to criticise what they perceive as speculative development without any tangible evidence of demand.

Haws is confident however, that Emirates Palace Marina will start to benefit from the growth in the superyacht industry witnessed in nearby Dubai.   He said:

"At Emirates Palace Marina we can have around 30 berths for yachts over 30 metres.  Vessels of this size don’t exist in this quantity in the region yet, but research shows we will see a growth in that market.  The superyacht market is growing in Dubai, Abu Dhabi just hasn’t taken off yet".

Emirates Palace Marina is located at 7* Emirates Palace in the heart of Abu Dhabi

He added that superyacht owners migrating from other marinas in the UAE are expected to be filling the berths.

"Currently you will find luxury yachts tied up next to fishing boats in other marinas - not the best for the paintwork.   We see our core berth occupancy owing from yacht migration from other marinas; a new wave of ownership by those who do not wish to compromise their lifestyle from anything other than the very best."

Guests arriving on superyachts can enjoy the hotel’s private beach, spa and health club, concierge services and business centre.  There are also  'room, berth and dine' packages which have been developed for visiting yachts.
