Isle of Wight-based design studio Bjorn Johansson Design (BJD) has announced it has ceased trading after 10 years within the superyacht industry. Since the loss of its principle designer and founder in January 2008, Björn Johansson, the team has worked hard to realise the award-winner's visions. “We achieved what we set out to do after losing Björn, in ensuring we were fully involved in the team that delivered Oceanco’s Sunrays and that the exterior styling integrity was adhered to,” explains managing director, Sally Johansson.
The studio, which had fulfilled all its design commitments prior to closing, had worked with the likes of Oceanco, Terence Disdale Design, John Munford Design, BMT Nigel Gee, Burgess, and on projects ranging from 13- to 85-metres. These included JA & Sons’ 28-metre Ilona, Trinity’s 43.9-metre Marlena, Brooke’s 60.4-metre Titan and Oceanco’s award winning 85.4-metre Sunrays.
“During the design process of MY Sunrays, I had the pleasure of meeting and working with one of the most enthusiastic people I have ever met in the industry,” explains Oceanco’s CEO, Marcel Onkenhout. “Björn was the driving force behind the BJD team. Working weekends was never a problem – he was a hard, talented and passionate worker, kept his promises, respected deadlines and at the same time had a good sense of humour with a smile and laugh I will never forget!”

Sally thanked all those who have supported the studio, especially over the past three years and expressed her pride in the work that had been achieved. “We are immensely proud of what Björn achieved in his too-short life, and proud of the team that managed to carry his vision forward,” concludes Sally.
