Four British superyacht design studios had outstanding success at the international design awards in Fort Lauderdale this year. Dubois Naval Architects, Redman Whiteley Dixon, Michael Leach Design and Rogers Yacht Design dominated both the Annual 2011 ISS Awards for Design and Leadership, and The ShowBoat Design Awards.

Dubois Naval Architects won three awards, including the ISS Best Sail 40m+ for Twizzle, which was shared with Redman Whiteley Dixon, as well as awards for the 49.7-metre Zefira and 58-metre Kokomo. Malcolm McKeon from Dubois Naval Architects said he was “delighted with the recognition these awards have brought us for our work,” and said it was “great to see UK based companies achieving such highly regarded international accolades.”

Justin Redman of Redman Whiteley Dixon was thrilled with an additional three awards for the 57.5-metre sailing yacht Twizzle. “It is an honour to be recognised by the industry’s most respected organisations for our part in the creation of sailing yacht Twizzle,” he said. “The host of accolades received are a result of the commitment of our team, the wider Twizzle project team and our clients for their vision in commissioning such a progressive sailing yacht.”

Rogers Yacht Design returned home with the award for the ISS Best Sail 24m-40m, for 25.1-metre sailing yacht Aegir. “This is Rogers Yacht Design’s 21st anniversary year,” commented Simon Rogers. “The team are honoured to have our work acknowledged in such a way.” Rogers praised the unified achievement of the British industry, maintaining, “collectively we have succeeded in promoting the very best of British within the marine industry, which is particularly relevant in these current times.”

Michael Leach Design was presented with a plethora of awards for the 95.1-metre motoryacht Palladium. Michael Leach said the office was “delighted” with the awards, acknowledging that "2011 was recognised by the judges as being the toughest year to win an award” due to a record number of yacht launches (nearly 100). Leach commented, “for Palladium to win seven awards, which I am told is a record for any single yacht, is therefore something that all at Michael Leach design studio is very proud [of].”

The collective success of the British design studios is extremely important, reaffirming the the country's position within the market, and British design studios as the best in the market this year.
