Burgess and Starship Yachts have announced a partnership agreement for the Hong Kong and Macau market with Starship Yachts Owner/CEO Edwin Ho becoming Burgess’ Chief Representative for these markets.
The market for luxury yachts in Asia is a fascinating and potentially lucrative prospect. As the economies of countries such as China and Southeast Asia continue to soar, more and more individuals are finding themselves with disposable income to spend on frivolous luxuries.
The truth is, the market is still in its infancy in Asia. Yachting is not yet a mainstream pastime, but that does not mean there is not a huge potential for growth. The key for companies will be to tap into the cultural and societal changes that are driving this trend. The rise of the "new rich" in Asia presents a golden opportunity for the luxury yacht market, but it will require a delicate touch and a deep understanding of the market to truly capitalize on this potential.
Starship Yachts is the Ferretti dealer for HK and Macau, offering the full range of the Ferretti group’s brands. Established in 1994, it was the first dealership to sell yachts in Greater China and has a compelling track record of selling yachts above 30m/100ft.
Burgess is the global leader in the brokerage, charter, management and new build advisory for large yachts (above 30m/100ft), and started its Asia operation in 2015, establishing offices in Hong Kong, Mumbai, Phuket, Singapore and Tokyo. Since then, Burgess transacted 31 yachts for Asia clients, averaging 50m/160ft in length.
An important part of Burgess’ Asia strategy is partnerships with leading dealerships in key markets. Other partners currently are Lyu Company (Lyu Kamikage) in Japan, Boat Lagoon Yachting (Vrit Yongsakul and Alister Brunskill) in Thailand/Singapore, and Marine Solutions (Anju and Gautama Dutta) in India.
Burgess Chairman Asia Jean-Marc Poullet commented: "Having been a pioneer of the Asia yachting industry and part of it for almost 30 years, Edwin is one of the most experienced and respected yachting professionals in Asia and we are delighted to welcome Starship Yachts and him to the Burgess family!”
Starship CEO Edwin Ho added: “We are delighted to partner with Burgess as they bring exceptional expertise and experience in the superyacht market globally, which we are excited to tap and bring to our clients interested in exploring the larger yachts segment”.
