Centek Industries establishes Fortress Pilings
Centek Industries is to apply its composite manufacturing expertise to dock pilings. Centek has launched a sister company, Fortress Pilings, that manufactures composite alternatives to timber pilings.…
Centek Industries will pit its composite experience against traditional timber pilings that are used in marina and dock construction. SuperyachtNews.com spoke to Fortress Pilings’ vice president of sales and marketing, Bill Arwood, who said that the challenge would be convincing clients of the residual benefits of paying more for the products themselves.
“The pilings are extremely strong – stronger than your traditional wood pilings. Honestly speaking, they are more expensive - sometimes almost double the price – but they are also impervious to the elements so it’s more of a lifetime product.”
Arwood says that initial interest has been encouraging but pricing will be the major obstacle to commercial success, particularly in a period of financial austerity.
Fortress Pilings will remain under the ownership of Centek Industries and all manufacturing will take place on-site.
