Lars Thrane, founder of Danish satellite communications company Thrane & Thrane, has announced his decision to leave the business – now called Cobham SATCOM after its recent acquisition by British firm, Cobham plc.

Thrane was initially very public in his opposition to the takeover, which saw persistent negotiations take place over many months.

Cobham finally achieved 90 per cent of the company in May this year after increasing an offer initially rejected in a Board decision led by Mr Thrane.

However, in a statement on the departure, Walther Thygesen, vice president of Cobham SATCOM praised Mr Thrane’s subsequent support:

“Lars has informed the Board that he will leave at the end of November. We respect his decision to leave the business, and we wish him all the very best for the future."

"We’re very appreciative of the support he has given us throughout this initial, critical period of the integration process, which is progressing well. He has built a great company, which we intend to grow further under Cobham’s ownership and the leadership of the Denmark-based management team.”

It is rare that emotions in business become obvious on its surface. But in this case it is easy to imagine the decision made by Mr Thrane, was made as much with the heart as with the head.
