Jamaica Ship Registry close to superyacht breakthrough
After a lengthy period of consultations between the requisite departments, the Jamaica Ship Registry has said it is close to enacting a reform of existing yacht importation laws. The proposed reform will replace various charges with one annual fee.…
However, several consultations between representatives of the local yachting community, customs department, the administration and other relevant agencies are reported to be at an advanced stage towards replacing the aforementioned duties with an annual fee and/or a cruising permit, making the system less onerous for superyacht operators.
Jamaica has also secured an agreement with the United States of America which allows Jamaican-flagged yachts to call at a US ports and remain there for up to one year without being liable to pay any customs duty.
