Man dies after falling from superyacht
A man's body has been recovered from Blackwattle Bay in Sydney, Australia, after it is believed he fell overboard a 100ft 'luxury cruiser' and was then struck by the vessel.…
A man’s body was pulled from the water at Pyrmont in Sydney on Friday 8 February 2013. The body was recovered from waters near the Glebe Island Bridge just before 2pm (Australia/Pacific time). It is believed he fell overboard before being struck by the 30.5m luxury cruiser. One media source has named the cruiser as Holland Jachtbouw’s 42m 2010 motoryacht Calliope, however this has not been confirmed by the police force and, at 11.5m longer than the vessel described by the NSW police force, we cannot be sure of the vessel in question.
Two other people were treated at the scene by the NSW Ambulance Paramedics for severe shock.
The vessel involved is now anchored in Blackwattle Bay as Marine Area Command detectives speak with those who were on board to ascertain what led to the tragic incident. Special forensics officers will also examine the boat and a post-mortem examination will be conducted in the coming days to determine a cause of death for the man, who is believed to be aged in his late 20s or early 30s.
SuperyachtNews.com will publish any further information we receive about the incident to educate and inform crew about the importance of safety at sea.
