With phased marina completions intended throughout 2014, Marina Port Vell (MPV), Barcelona has announced the appointment of Captain Anders Pehrson as dockmaster.

"Bringing Captain Pehrson on at MPV to help spearhead the final detailing of the marina, and fine-tune our developing seven-star service to clients is a huge step forward," says Norma Trease, director of Salamanca Group's marine division. "He brings to us a wealth of experience as not only a top-level charter skipper, but also as a business owner and journalist. So his well-rounded background will be a tremendous help as we enter the final stages of our exciting MPV development."

"Using first-hand experience and knowledge of the superyacht industry, the role of MPV's dockmaster initially revolves around the continuing transformation of the marina's facilities and the evolution of service we are providing," continues Trease. "Captain Pehrson's focus will be on ensuring that we maximise the quality of the services that the marina provides. Equally important, he is an ambassador for MPV; networking, public relations and contact with existing and future clients is also part of the job description."

Speaking exclusively to SuperyachtNews.com, Captain Pehrson reveals that he has high hopes for the future of MPV. "Joining the ambitious project is a closing circle for me personally," explains Captain Pehrson. "MPV was where I joined my first superyacht, 50m motoryacht Renalo. I have been hoping and waiting for something like this to happen for the last 15 years, and to now see Barcelona's foremost marina turning into a superyacht marina is absolutely fantastic. The fact that I will now be a part of the transformation makes it even better. As a superyacht captain, I know all about the big shortage of berths in the Western Med, and as Barcelona has always been a place where the crew enjoy spending time, I am sure it is set to be a very attractive home port. For me it's a great opportunity to come in during the transformation and to be involved in the creation of something new and exciting."

A rendering of the intended marina completions which will see Marina Port Vell boast 162 fully serviced berths for power and sail yachts and superyachts of up to 180m.

"We are set to deliver the first permanent berths at the end of 1st quarter 2014, with final completion due by the end of the year," adds Trease. "We welcome Captain Pehrson to the MPV team with great enthusiasm. I have followed his successful yachting career with great admiration. His many talents, including fluency in many languages and a strong training and leadership background will add significantly to the final stages of our very exciting project here at MPV."
