Annapolis' Westlawn Institute gains RINA accreditation

The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA), an organisation that represents naval architects in over 90 countries, has accredited the Annapolis-based Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology’s Yacht and Boat Design Programme.

Universities and training providers that furnish students with the professional skills to design and construct maritime vessels and structures can apply to have their courses accredited by RINA. Westlawn has been training boat designers for over eighty years, and before giving accreditation RINA assessed the quality and breadth of the course, and the standards set for successful completion of the course.

Dave Gerr, director of Westlawn Institute commented: “It’s an honour to have Westlawn Institute’s Yacht & Boat Design programme accredited by RINA. Not only does this recognise the breadth and quality of the Westlawn programme, but it provides our students and alumni with an additional confirmation of the marine industry’s broad acceptance of Westlawn Institute training.”

RINA was established 150 years ago and membership of RINA is open to those who are professionally qualified in naval architecture or marine technology, or who are otherwise involved in the maritime industry.
