US-based Stephens Waring Yacht Design (SWYD), previously known as Stephens, Waring & White (SW&W), has announced it will be taking a more design focused direction. Leaving business partner Steve White to focus on his own business, Brooklin Boat Yard, principle designers Robert Stephens and Paul Waring will be heading up the newly named design studio. “Our working relationship and friendship with Steve remains as solid as ever, but as we move forward with new projects, we will now have the freedom to work with other builders and individuals as well,” explains Waring.

The duo are now looking further afield at markets both in Europe and the US, offering 50 years of design experience the firm has earned. The studio’s portfolio ranges from the W-Class and 27-metre Bequia, to the 15-metre Ginger. With a number of production boat designs already on the drawing board along with custom projects such as the Barrett 42, Concept 42 and Rivolta 43 Vintage, SWYD continues to create and develop projects. “Our designs are driven by the pursuit of high performance without compromising the classical proportions and craftsmanship of yesteryear. We seek to embrace new technology throughout the design envelope, from sail-handling to hull materials,” concludes Stephens.

The Barrett 42 is expected to be launched in spring 2012, with Concept 42 due to be presented at the 2011 Salon Privé and Concours d’Élégance. The Rivolta 43 Vintage will be launched later this year in collaboration with US-based Rivolta Yachts.
