Tiger Woods-backed marina opens London office

'Albany', the Bahamas based marina complex part owned by Tiger Woods, has opened a London office. The move was prompted by growing demand in Europe for tax breaks offered in the Bahamas.…

Albany marina, part of a new luxury resort community in the Bahamas, has launched a London office.

The 71-slip superyacht marina at Albany is part of the resort situated across 600 oceanfront acres on the southwestern end of New Providence in the Bahamas. It was created by US golfer Tiger Woods, Tavistock Group and Ernie Els, launching in October 2010.

Albany's marina apartments are due for completion in December 2013

The London office has been opened to meet the growing demand in Europe for the "advantageous tax breaks in the Bahamas", said director of the London office James Deen.

Deen also provided an update on take-up for Albany's superyacht berths and luxurious marina apartments, which have been sold on a pre-construction basis before opening in 2013. Seventy-five per cent of the buildings have been sold, with each one costing anything from 4 to 20 million US dollars. Half of all berths have also been sold and Deen noted that, "surprisingly many of the berths have gone to buyers of the apartments and beach front properties. Owners of 30 metre yachts value the additional space."

The marina is part of a clutch of new resort style complexes that have either recently launched or are due to imminently. Deen says Albany is unique because of its world-class golf course and the "iconic style of the marina apartments, which are designed by esteemed American architects Morris Adjmi, Gwathmey Siegel and HKS Architects. The deep-water marina is also designed and built to aesthetically rival the great resort ports of the world."

As well as the Ernie Els-designed golf course, Albany has a fitness centre and spa, an adult pool and bar, a family water park, a childrens' clubhouse and casual and fine dining restaurants. It is promoted as a year round luxury resort community, rather than one-off holiday destination.
