Camper & Nicholsons Crew Placement Division (CNCPD) and YPI Crew have both gone through and passed the necessary assessment to gain MLC’s stamp of compliance.
Laurence Lewis, director of YPI Crew says the crew recruitment component is an important part of the 14 step package and can help speed up a Flag State or Port State Control inspection:
“The use of a licensed, certified or regulated private recruitment and placement agency is one of the 14 points which are subject to inspection. It is also confirms that the yacht crew placed by the agency are qualified; that the crew agency is not charging crew for representing them or assisting them in securing employment; that the crew agency is not blacklisting and that the crew agency is operated in an orderly fashion.”
“We are delighted to have gained compliancy prior to the Convention entering into force in August of this year," said director, Debbie Blazy.
"Our team has concentrated all its efforts into making this happen. The convention clarifies the rights and responsibilities of all crew members and we believe that this will have a very positive impact on the industry.”
Blazy added that MLC will give no change to the quality of the candidates CNCPD offers clients, but will give peace of mind that the necessary points for complying with the law have all been met.
The MLC sets out seafarers' rights to decent conditions of work. It has been designed to become a global instrument known as the "fourth pillar" of the international regulatory regime for quality shipping, complementing the Conventions of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
SuperyachtNews' Will Mathieson chairs a series of seminars today at Palma on the MLC, at the Superyacht Management meeting: MLC, Careers and Recruitment. A report on that event will be forthcoming on SYN.
