'Ecstasea' collides with bridge

The 86m connected with part of the Simpson Bay Bridge…

M/Y Ecstasea has been involved in a significant incident on the island of St Maarten.

The 86m vessel inadvertently destroyed the operator’s cabin at Simpson Bay Bridge, with widely circulated video footage clearly showing an open starboard hatch to be the culprit for the collision.

At the time of writing, there is no indication that anyone was hurt. But it does represent the 26th incident of any form to involve a superyacht in 2019. This represents a 62.5 per cent increase on 2018. But, of course, 2017 still represents the highest tally, with 31 recorded incidents, attributed in no small part to the series of natural disasters that occurred in freak sequence that year.

The video was widely circulated on Twitter
