Fire breaks out at Versilia Supply Service
A major fire engulfed the Versilia Supply Service warehouse in Viareggio, no reported casualties at this stage…
A major fire engulfed the Versilia Supply Service warehouse on 25 July between 5.40 pm and 6.15 pm in Viareggio. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire started in the shipping department of the company where four delivery vans and a forklift were stationed. Initial reports indicate the fire might have been triggered by an overloaded battery of the forklift.
The fire was aggravated by warehouse materials and strong winds, leading to explosions from the tyres and fuel tanks of the vehicles within the warehouse. Police kept bystanders at a distance due to these developments.
No employees were inside the warehouse when the fire broke out, resulting in no reported casualties. A spokesperson for Versilia adds:
"We have taken immediate steps to restore the affected warehouse and supplies so that we can continue to fulfil your requests and orders without significant disruptions, maintaining our service and quality products as we have always done. We are grateful for your patience and understanding during this challenging period."
The incident quickly caught the attention of local residents, social media users, and neighbouring shipyards, including Azimut, Benetti, Lusben, Codecasa, Overmarine and Sanlorenzo. Fire brigade teams from surrounding municipalities managed to control the fire.
The fire brigade and law enforcement remained at the scene, and clean-up operations are planned for completion on 26 July. Civil defence officials and a fire brigade engineer from Lucca are examining the site to ascertain the cause of the fire and assess the damage, which will be outlined in an official report.
