Few tables are as synonymous with water and the sea as the Ripple Series, another design by Lee Rowland of Rowland Art Engineering, the man behind the convertible dining table. To turn something as utilitarian and stationary as a table into something dynamic is not an easy task, but Rowland has come up with a novel concept that captures the beauty of nature’s ripple effect when a drop hits water.

“The table is made from chrome-plated aluminium,” explains the designer, “with the drops being held in place by a fine, high-tensile steel chord that is barely visible to the eye when looking at the table from a distance”. The ripple effect is created through a 3D machining process combined with advanced sheet metalwork and finished with a lap polishing technique associated with the production of telescope mirrors.
