Abeking & Rasmussen launches new 80m superyacht

Today, 80m M/Y 'Excellence' was introduced to the water at Abeking & Rasmussen’s facilities in Lemwerder…

One year after the launch of 74m Elandess, Abeking & Rasmussen has launched its impressive looking new project, M/Y Excellence. At 80m, this new launch is the fifth largest superyacht built by the German shipyard and also marks the second time that it has worked with renowned studio, Winch Design.

On Saturday, the yacht was introduced to the water at Abeking & Rasmussen’s facilities in Lemwerder, during which onlookers got a glimpse of her distinctive exterior profile, which is complete with an impressive double height window that was first introduced to the world in 2013 as project ‘Intensity’.

“Excellence represents a huge milestone. A completely unique superstructure, she signifies an innovative and exciting new genre for Winch Design.”

“Excellence represents a huge milestone,” says Andrew Winch. “A completely unique superstructure, she signifies an innovative and exciting new genre for Winch Design.”

Without question, the result of the exterior design is dramatic, and also technically very impressive thanks to the sheer volume of glass featured on the yacht, which was installed by Abeking & Rasmussen’s in-house team. And, to add to this ‘drama’, the yacht also features a reverse bow, which accentuates the modern appearance of the new superyacht.

“We are very proud of this extraordinary yacht and our exceptional workforce, who mastered all requirements bravely,” says Hans Schaedla, CEO of Abeking & Rasmussen. “Never before have glass panels been installed in these dimensions. The unusual lines also repeatedly presented employees with major challenges. Now we have developed and successfully finished this masterpiece and can hardly wait for the sea trials.”

Following the launch today, Excellence will embark on a series of sea trials along the river Weser and the North Sea ahead of her outfitting programme which will then see the yacht to delivery this Summer.

Since 2009, Abeking & Rasmussen has been very consistent in its activity having delivered at least one vessel per annum, which is a claim that only a handful of shipyards can prove in the superyacht industry. The German shipyard also has a further two vessels under construction, not including Excellence, which are both scheduled for delivery in 2020.
