TSR recently paid a visit to Alloy Yachts in February for an update on all the activity at the yard. Our photographer Luke Sprague was on hand to take these fantastic shots of work underway around the yard.

Now in its 28th year, Alloy Yachts is New Zealand’s biggest shipyard and employs 370 staff, 69 of whom are apprentices. The yard has built over 40 superyachts, both motor and sail and prides itself on undertaking almost all work in-house. Recent launches are 39m M/Y CaryAli (AY44), launched in October 2012, and 47m M/Y Loretta Anne, launched in March 2012 (see Issue 134 of The Superyacht Report for a full yacht report). Three yachts – two sailing yachts and one motoryacht - are under construction: AY45, AY46 and AY54.

The wordwork division is just one of Alloy's in-house departments

43.9m S/Y Encore (AY45), overseen by Project Coordinator Greg Yeo, will launch later this month. Being built for repeat Alloy owners the sloop has an interior by the Alloy design team and owners. Naval architecture and exterior design is by long-term collaborator with Alloy, Dubois Naval Architects. Encore’s classic interior is nearly complete, and the final touches are pulling together ahead of her imminent launch.

56.4m S/Y Mondango (AY46), overseen by Project Coordinator Chris Brown, is also being built for repeat owners. The ketch also features naval architecture and exterior design by Dubois Naval Architects, with an interior by Reymond Langton Design. Her launch is scheduled for the end of 2013.

44m M/Y AY54, overseen by Project Coordinator Simon Pierpoint, was signed just before the Monaco Yacht Show 2012. This will be a first Alloy yacht for the experienced owner. Although most information about the project remains confidential, the displacement yacht is designed by Sam Sorgiovanni, and will have an interior by Redman Whiteley Dixon.

It has been a busy summer for the yard: Alloy Yachts also had recent success in the Marine Trades Challenge, taking multiple awards including Best Built Boat and the Innovation categories
