Amels introduces new 60m Limited Editions superyacht

After three years of comprehensive research and development, Amels has introduced the all new Amels 60…

It has been described as one of the most successful semi-custom options in the market since it was first envisioned by Amels in 2005, and now the Limited Editions range been reimagined. After three years of comprehensive research and development Amels is introducing the Amels 60 – the next generation of Limited Editions, designed by Espen Øino.

Having entirely redeveloped the design of the Limited Editions as well as the architecture behind it, the new Amels 60 is a hybrid vessel that has been devised to stand the test of time through both design and performance.

“The Amels 60 is an exciting new take on the very best Amels knowhow and craftsmanship that has shaped everything we have done for more than 100 years,” says Rose Damen, Managing Director of the Damen Shipyard’s Yachting division. “Just like the global fleet of Limited Editions yachts at sea today, the Amels 60 will be a beacon of trusted reliability, quality and comfort for decades to come.”

Since the concept was introduced in 2005, Amels has delivered 40 Limited Editions vessels, highlighting just how popular they have been.

This is the second time Amels has collaborated with Espen Øino, after the 78 full custom superyacht currently under construction and scheduled for delivery in 2021. The new Amels 60 certainly gives a modern edge to the range, not only in appearance, but also in performance, boasting lower fuel and maintenance costs as well as a reduction in harmful emissions.

“As a naval architect and as a yacht designer I like how the Amels 60 optimises the waterline lengths which increases the length to beam ratio. It is the right way to go. This is a very efficient hull form, which in combination with the hybrid propulsion, makes the Amels 60 quite unique in this size and range of vessels."

“As a naval architect and as a yacht designer I like how the Amels 60 optimises the waterline lengths which increases the length to beam ratio,” explains Espen Øino. “It is the right way to go. This is a very efficient hull form, which in combination with the hybrid propulsion, makes the Amels 60 quite unique in this size and range of vessels.

“Starting with a blank sheet of paper, the design builds on the heritage at Amels, but it’s a clean and contemporary way to experience the sea,” continues Øino.  “You have these big views from the owner’s suite through trapezoid forms with chamfered frames, little edgy aspects that make it dynamic.”

For the interiors of the Amels 60, the shipyard selected Studio Indigo to create a design concept for the vessel. But, this is still customisable as per the owner’s requests.

“We refined the GA to make the space as ergonomically efficient as possible, generating a layout that seeks to maximise the perception of space and flow.”

- Mike Fisher, Studio Indigo

“We refined the GA to make the space as ergonomically efficient as possible, generating a layout that seeks to maximise the perception of space and flow,” Mike Fisher, of Studio Indigo explains. “This was achieved by opening up the views and vistas between spaces to make them feel bigger, lighter and brighter.

“The interiors are chic and contemporary, using a rich variety of fabrics and textures throughout, allowing the guests onboard to experience different atmospheres that surprise and delight as you walk through the AMELS 60,” continues Fisher. “Consistency of materials, architectural detailing and form means spaces flow easily into the next, thereby creating the illusion of endless space."

Amels now have five vessels under construction, one of which (55m M/Y Papa) has been launched and scheduled for delivery this year.

During the Monaco Yacht Show, the new Amels 60 will be on display at the Amels and Damen stand on T- Central.
