Aureus massage table

As massage is arguably the most popular spa treatment, a good massage table is the cornerstone of any spa space. Moreover, on a luxury superyacht where everything is of the highest standard, only the very best massage couch will do. And it doesn’t come more luxurious than the top-of-the-range Aureus massage table by UK-based Aequum, featured in SuperyachtDesign Q6.

Combining the expertise of an osteopath and the skill of bespoke furniture craftsman Edward Crowther, the Aureus is a softly curving, polished hardwood massage table dressed in the softest Swedish Elmosoft leather. Featuring an ergonomically contoured face rest, detachable side armrests and eiderdown head and leg pillows with electric or hand-crank hydraulics, the massage couch uses only the finest materials and is more sculpture than a piece of equipment.


“We recognised that most commercially available massage couches were not ideally suited for use within the stylish, sophisticated spaces of high-end consumers,” explains Crowther. “The majority of couches were functional but lacked aesthetic refinement, often characterised by a rather clinical appearance, standard construction materials and basic comfort provision. This was because all massage couches are designed primarily for the commercially competitive professional market — for purchase by massage therapists, rather than private individuals.”

For Crowther, it was clear that a new design of massage couch would be required to meet the needs of the world’s most discerning buyers an exclusive niche of individuals accustomed to the health and leisure benefits of massage, who would instinctively demand the highest quality goods and services.

The result is the Aureus, an innovative piece of design in a humanoid shape that not only looks attractive, but also enhances the massage experience.
