Awlgrip launches 321 HS Undercoat

On the first day of the Miami International Boat Show, Awlgrip has launched its new high-solids finish primer by the name of 321 HS Undercoat.

The 321 HS Undercoat aids the reduction of solvent emissions, and as a result is a sustainable choice for builders, boatyards and applicators, even in VOC-restricted areas. Utilising the latest in resin technology and optimised pigment package, 321 HS Undercoat will increase yard efficiency.

The undercoat can be applied in a single coat, yielding excellent flow and levelling properties that would previously have been unseen in most high-solids finishing primers. Its firm build provides an ideal surface for subsequent Awlgrip topcoat applications, while its excellent hold-up makes it user-friendly to any applicator.

An additional feature of the undercoat is its slight gloss of the dry paint film, a result of which is that it is easier to see and address any surface imperfections prior to topcoating. It is a great alternative to Awlgrip 545 Epoxy Primer, or any other conventional finish primers.

“Many high-solids technologies on the market today don’t give such a smooth finish as 321 HS Undercoat,” commented Global Senior Product Manager at Awlgrip, Chris Toole. “Having a smoother finish compared to other high-solids technologies means that 321 HS Undercoat requires less effort, and compared to other high-solids technologies means that the 321 HS Undercoat requires less effort and time to sand smooth. Also, some high-solids technologies cure too hard and are tough to sand after three days. With 321 HS Undercoat you won’t have those same concerns.”
