Baltic Yachts starts construction on 'Pink Gin VI'

Baltic Yachts, Finland, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, is marking the occasion with the construction of a special yacht.

Pink Gin VI, the Baltic 175, is the sixth yacht her owner has commissioned from Baltic.

"It’s a great pleasure for us to be starting construction of the Baltic 175 Pink Gin VI the same year as our company celebrates its 40th anniversary. We have enjoyed a long and sucessful relationship with the owner," commented a spokesperson from Baltic.

The inspiration behind the design for the 54m long performance sailing yacht is to improve on the already proven concept of Baltic 152.

"We are looking for more performance from a shape with a timeless silhouette. The boat will have a vertical bow, long overhang and a deep lifting keel. After a thorough CFD/VPP study of different hull shapes, we have opted for bow sections that are very close to our racing-cruising designs with very soft runs," they continued.

At a displacement of 235 tonnes she is remarkably light for a yacht of her size, which is due to the carbon sandwich hull and deck construction. Baltic also opted for a lifting keel configuration with a draught of 7m in sailing displacement and a minimum draught of 4m to keep displacement as low as possible.

The sail plan is described as 'very generous' with a mast height of nearly 67 metres above water level to give optimum performance in all weathers. The sailplan has two headstays, one for the big non-overlapping Jib, one for a staysail. The big furling Code Zero will be attached on a fixed bowsprit.

Development of the cockpit area is by Design Unlimited in collaboration with judel/vrolijk, the yacht's naval architects. Under the owner's specific direction, the area will be divided into three zones. Forward will be the large main entertaining cockpit with a free-standing dining area and a variety of seating areas. The focal point of the main cockpit will be the free-standing bar with access to galley and crew mess below. The deck house with design styling by judel/vrolijk will be 'timeless' but original.

The interior layout and styling by Design Unlimited features 'eclectic touches' of the Pink Gin lifestyle. These include 'strikingly provocative' interiors with elegant cozy touches so that the owner can be comfortable on world cruising voyages. Particularly arresting is the Master Stateroom which incorporates an impressive fold out balcony for the owner to enjoy a space that is 'both totally private and which allows a wonderfully intimate connection to the sea.'

The four year construction on the Baltic 175 begins now to keep her on course for launch in 2017.
