Benetti announces expedition yacht line at MYS

The B.YOND 37m will be the first of three new models…

Benetti is returning to its steel roots, with the creation of a new line of ‘compact’ expedition yachts. The first of the three models will be the B.YOND 37m, with the first hull under construction. This will be followed by a B.YOND 44m model and a smaller model after that.

Benetti has chosen the 37m LOA based on this being the maximum size that can berth in most marinas around the Mediterranean. The B.YOND 37m will also have a volume of just under 500gt, which has been achieved with the inclusion of four decks without compromising the yacht’s exterior aesthetics. As such, Benetti has labelled the design as a ‘revolution in the use of space’.

Speaking exclusively to SuperyachtNews at the show, Benetti Chairman Paolo Vitelli explains the decision behind the new line. “We have seen the growing niche of explorer yachts and believe it is because owners and guests want to stay on board longer and want more tenders and toys on board,” he comments. “Benetti wants to take the concept [of the expedition yacht] and make it appeal to a larger market.”

As well as the more compact size, one of the key features of the B.YOND line that Benetti hopes will appeal to a larger market and separate it from other expedition yachts is a hidden tender and toy garage. The garage on the B.YOND 37m has the same capacity for carrying tenders and toys as other expedition yachts in the size range, including two tenders and jet skis, but is concealed to maintain the aesthetics of the overall design. Other interesting features include two staircases to ensure a separation between crew operations and guests and a 360-degree view in the upper salon.

The B.YOND 37m will be powered by the diesel-electric system SISHIP EcoProp of Siemens, a solution from the Global Competence Centre of Siemens Marine that guarantees eco-sustainable navigation with low fuel consumption and reduced environmental impact. Thanks to the e-Mode propulsion architecture developed for the shipyard, it will have a range of 5,000 to 10,000nm depending on the navigation mode.

The B.YOND 37m will be presented to Benetti’s sales network on 15 October and unveiled in full detail the following day.
