Benetti launches 63m ‘Metis’
The full-custom yacht was commissioned for a German owner…
Last week, 63m motoryacht Metis was launched at Benetti’s Livorno shipyard. With exteriors designed by Benetti and Giorgio M. Cassetta and interiors by Bannenberg & Rowell and Birgit Otte Interior Design, the full-custom yacht was commissioned for a German owner, with Yacht Moments overseeing project management.
“While every launch is the source of great pride for us, Metis represents something special: her owner, together with Yacht Moments, allows us to enhance our presence in the strategically important German market,” said Benetti CEO Franco Fusignani at the launch ceremony.
Built with a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure, Metis is a five-deck yacht with a defining long and vertical bow. For her interiors, Bannenberg & Rowell has introduced an original approach with an asymmetrical layout. The beach club, the main saloon on the main deck and the lounge area on the upper deck are skewed 30 degrees from the traditional layout, revealing new vantage points from which to admire the sea view.
Another distinctive feature of Metis is the large owner’s apartment, situated on the upper deck for total privacy. Covering a surface of 162sqm, it has a panoramic view through the windows that surround almost the entire perimeter and flood the area with natural light. In addition to the master cabin, the area dedicated to the owner includes two bathrooms with walk-in wardrobes and a spacious day area with sofa and television. The apartment also has a 55sqm outdoor terrace and a touch-and-go helipad.
On the main deck, in addition to the saloon containing relaxation and dining areas, there is a customised children’s playroom, twin cabin and adjacent nanny suite. On the lower deck are the four big guest cabins and accommodation for a crew of 12, plus the aft beach club. On the top bridge deck, the helm station and connected captain’s cabin are forward, while an outside lounge area aft is furnished with a dining table, bar, jacuzzi and sun-lounging area.
According to The Superyacht Intelligence Agency, Benetti currently has 30 yachts in build ranging up to 107.6m in length. In 2019, the yard is forecasting the delivery of three vessels in the region of 107m. Last year, Benetti was the most active superyacht builder in the market, based on The Superyacht Annual Report 2018: New Build criteria of cumulative LOA delivered over five years, and its consistent activity could potentially secure its position once again in The Superyacht New Build Report (issue 192), to be published in February 2019.
