Brandoni, the Italian specialist in heating systems that incorporate renewable energy, has revealed a new range of fireplaces. The fireplaces are powered by bioethanol, a plant fuel alternative to traditional fossil fuels that is sustainable and biodegradable.

Presented at the Frankfurt Tradefair, ISH 2011, the Cone model, designed by the Italian duo Stefano Gritti and Sofia Rollo, is made from pale natural oak and almost resembles a volcano, with the flames emanating from an opening at the top. Other models include the Maya, a pyramid-shaped fireplace finished in iroko wood.

Fireplaces make for an interesting focal point in a room and can add real warmth to the space. While the dangers of having a fireplace on board should always be kept in mind, the Brandoni fireplaces are particularly suitable for superyachts as bioethanol is a clean-burning fuel and the only chemical bi-products of its combustion are carbon dioxide and water. This means that a chimney or flue is not required because the yacht’s ventilation system should easily remove the CO2.
