CMC to exhibit latest electric stabiliser at Genoa
CMC Marine is to launch the latest version of its Stabilis Electra electronic stabilisation system at the Genoa Boat Show. The product launch marks "phase 3" in CMC's lifecycle, said the company.…
The Stabilis Electra fins are electrically powered, bypassing the dynamic limitations posed by hydraulic equivalents and improving response times. The actuation speed is higher and can reach at least 80°/second, while for a traditional hydraulic actuator it is rarely more than 60°/second. When at anchor, the fin acceleration/deceleration phases are better controlled thanks to the lower inertia of the electrical drive.
The size of the fins can also be reduced because of the aforementioned efficiency gains. This leads to energy savings due to the reduced hydrodynamic resistance of appendages.
A spokesperson for CMC said of the Stabilis Electra range:
“The new features permit optimisation of in-house production and testing cycles and times, permitting more flexible internal planning and further raising quality standards, while also achieving the goal of rationalising the post-sales assistance and parts service.”
The company has deemed the launch of the new product ‘phase 3’ in its evolution. This new era comprises a four year plan in which CMC intends to fully “industrialise” its production processes and roll out a global after-sales service.
