The unit is supplied in two variants, either as a stand alone display connected to an existing AIS transponder or receiver onboard, or as the CSD-300R which has an integral AIS receiver.
Data is displayed on a 6.5” high resolution display overlaid onto worldwide background cartography or as a “radar” style display with range rings. For more detailed cartography, the unit has a slot for a Jeppesen C-MAP C card.
There is also a “GOTO” feature to take you directly from a tabular listing of targets to a selected vessel on the chart. The company say this could be used as a buddy finding feature or perhaps to monitor other yachts, which alongside a very useful target tracking feature, enables up to five selected targets to be tracked onscreen.
Track histories can be displayed on the screen together with live detailed information on any one vessel. Variable parameters for CPA and TCPA can be set and modified according to user requirements and the unit has a powerful internal audible alarm.
“With the increase in the volume of Class B transponders and new regulations stipulating mandatory use of AIS on more and more vessels around the world, we have seen an increasing demand for a dedicated AIS device to manage and filter AIS data on board,” commented Peter Cotton, Comar’s managing director.
To control the functions available on the CSD-300, the unit has a simple menu structure with instructions. Additional features include listing AIS targets in a tabular format, sorting by range, MMSI, name and vessel category. You can filter targets by transmission type (Class A, B, ATON etc.,) and there are full zoom, pan, contrast and dimming functions.
The unit is trunnion mounted and comes with mounting bracket. It is suitable for installing on vessels with 12vDC or 24vDC supplies.
