UK, London. Today saw the start of the 37th edition of Decorex International at Syon Park in West London. The interior design trade show has returned to the grounds close to Syon House, providing an appropriate location for the organisers, as they celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Georgian era.

To set the tone, the entrance features eight installations by leading designers who have interpreted the works of 18th century English artist William Hogarth, specifically his 'A Rake's Progressseries. Consisting of eight paintings, the series depicts the fall of Tom Rakewell, the heir of a rich merchant who became consumed by gambling, prostitution and luxurious living in London. Designers such as Lulu Lytle, Edward Bulmer, Russell Sage, Peter Phan and Nigel Coates have each interpreted and created their version of the paintings together with the help of international brands such as Dedar, Altfield, Harlequin London and Tufenkian Artisan Carpets.

"Storytelling has always been central to my design practice," said designer of 'The Levee' entrance, Nigel Coates, ahead of the event. "The Rake, and more explicitly 'The Levee', gives me the perfect opportunity to translate his spirit through my work." All eight displays entice visitors into the main tent where over 300 exhibitors present their latest pieces, from furniture, lighting and carpets to sculptures, fabrics and artwork.

Among those exhibiting this year are David Harber, Vandra Rugs and Philip Watts Design, all of which have returned for the second year running following a successful Decorex 2013. "We've been at 100% Design for many years but Decorex is still quite new for us," says director Philip Watts at Philip Watts Design. "The show has a nice level of foot traffic and the right kind of visitors for us."

Decorex 2014 also promises to host a number of seminars over the course of the four-day event with speakers including Daniel Hopwood, Nigel Coates, Sara Cosgrove, Corinne Julius, Tim Gosling and Hassan Abdullah. Set to deliver his seminar, entitled 'The Making of a Brand', on the last day of the show, Abdullah is the co-founder of Les Trois Garcons, which was invited to create this year's champagne bar.

"Upon being approached to design the champagne bar, we didn't think twice," said Abdullah ahead of the event. "Apart from being a great opportunity for us, we would be able to play our part and hopefully inspire amazing new ideas alongside other talented names from around the world, and in turn, be inspired by them."

Decorex International 2014 runs from Sunday 21st to Wednesday 24th September. We hope to bring you more news on the show and the exhibitors in the coming weeks.
