For the love of it: latest issue of The Superyacht Owner is out
The fourth issue of The Superyacht Owner is our passion issue. Approaching the boat show season where decisions to buy are made, we explore what might motivate an owner to take the big step.…
Passion, which always informs The Superyacht Owner’s approach, is also a central theme of our fall issue. Lying smack in the middle of the busy show season where many soon to be owners will be looking for their first or next purchase, we look at what makes owners ‘fall in love’ with their yachts and the amazing lifestyles they open doors to.
Owner Tom Saylak, is proud owner of 37m ocean-cruising cutter Genevieve. He shares not just his love for the ‘magical and spiritual’ element of superyacht life, but his logical approach to the purchase of this Burgess-sourced yacht which he terms ‘five rules of the road’.
A taste for adventure inspired owner Dario Segre into ownership and here he divulges details of his incredible journey from the icy fjords of Scandinavia to the azure waters of the Caribbean and back.
Our next owner story comes from a Belgian shipowner and businessman. Discover how a sense of peace and opportunity led him to build Sunreef’s first significant superyacht build, the 35m catamaran Che.
If ownership is the full-blown love affair, charter is often the route that inspires this commitment. Tracking down a passionate charterer Todd Beechey on Twitter, we discover the fresh perspective of a superyacht industry virgin.
Passionate yacht designer, founder and owner of the iconic Wally Yachts brand Luca Bassani forms our cover interview. Bassani has literally shaken up the ‘white boat’ school of yacht design after 20 years at helm of Wally Yachts, with a unique concoction of radical styling and minimalist interiors. European editor Justin Ratcliffe interviews the Maestro.
As ever, serious issues and topics that dive into the heart of ownership experience are the backbone of the issue. In Shifting the risk: Waivers of liability, we ask which party (owner or yard) should be expected to carry the burden of liability when undertaking refit or warranty work and why. Looking eastwards, Alan Chuang, Hong Kong-based entrepreneur and multiple yacht owner, comments on the emerging yacht market in China whilst Getting Tough on Security is a guide to finding the best maritime security provider.
On superyacht operation, there are features including Safety at Sea, addressing cybercrime and US editor Esther Barney assesses the most common stumbling blocks to the fiscal planning of a superyacht in Manning.
Further features see exploration of the designs for the tender of 77.7m Tango launched in 2011 by Feadship. The London-based studio ensured she matched the elegant and stylish looks of her mothership. And in our Money section, we examine cases where brokers represent both buyer and the seller in a yacht deal.
There is much more including contributions from industry experts. AJ Anderson of Wright Maritime argues for the superyacht industry to take its place on the stage of the world economy and find acclaim as a trail-blazer in development of safety and security measures.
