Ferretti Group and Wally unveil latest concept
165 Wallypower hopes to modernise the fast open-yacht market…
At the Monaco Yacht Show 2019, Ferretti Group and Wally unveiled the brand’s latest concept, 165 Wallypower. The 50m vessel is the result of a collaboration between Espen Øino and Luca Bassani, founder of Wally Yachts, that they hope will “change the way the world sees Mediterranean cruiser yachts forever.”
The 165 Wallypower is the first power superyacht concept to be released by Wally since it became a part of Ferretti Group this year. “Ferretti Group has made the impossible possible bringing together two geniuses in yachting: Espen and Luca are outstanding innovators who have each made a deep impact on yacht design. Now, in collaboration, they are shaking up the market with this incredible new yacht, the 165 Wallypower” comments Alberto Galassi, CEO of Ferretti Group.
Reportedly frustrated by the lack of modernisation in the fast open yacht market over the decades, Øino decided to give the vessel sharp, uncluttered lines with plenty of outdoor space with natural flow to the interior to give a sense of always being close to the water.
On his inspiration for the 165 Wallypower, Øino comments: “I have always been an admirer of Wally design. Luca and I share the same vision and approach, rooted in a profound passion for the sea and sailing. We both grew up around the water, we have been in the industry for 25 years and we chose to base our activity in Monaco, believing it would become the world centre of superyachting. With the 165 Wallypower, two like-minded, driven brands have now finally come together to create a new icon.”
Although 50m in length, the design has incorporated many elements typically expected on a larger vessel. The owner’s stateroom, for example, is found on the main deck providing privacy and space not usually afforded to owners of yachts this length. The main deck also features a large saloon and dining area with double fold-down balconies to lead seamlessly to an outdoor dining space and swimming pool.
Outside, railings and deck equipment are kept to a minimum, to give a sense of space and serenity. Glass replaces solid exterior bulwarks where possible, to maximise the feeling of closeness to the water, and tenders are stored in a concealed garage beneath the foredeck.
Another feature that is unusually large for a yacht of this size and type is the sundeck which extends to a full 15m.
Bassani is clearly pleased with the results of this collaboration: “Wally products must always be innovative and deliver the unexpected,” he explains, “I am very happy and proud to have worked with Espen on this exciting new project. He completely understood what was needed to bring the Wally ‘wow factor’ to the fast open boat market. There is no mistaking it: this is a pure Wally design for a new purpose.”
