Heesen to begin construction on first 'Hull Vane' superyacht
Heesen has confirmed the sale of the Fast Displacement Hull Form YN 17042, featuring 'Hull Vane' technology. The technology is so new that the design had yet to be revealed to the industry.…
The Hull Vane design, by Piet van Oossanen, was so new that Heesen was yet to present it to the industry. It comprises a foil fitted beneath the hull that, its designer claims, can reduce water resistance by 24 per cent at top speed. The damping effect of the hull also reduces motion in heavy conditions: when the bow pitches upwards, the foil generates an upward force at the stern, and vice versa. YN 17042 is capable of 15.9 knots generated by two MTU 12V 2000 engines at 1080kW.
Omega Architects’ Frank Laupman, who was responsible for the yacht’s exterior design, has produced a low hull profile, designed to position the owner and guests ‘close’ to the ocean, a feature magnified by the expanse of windows towards the bow. The vessel will accommodate 12 guests in six cabins. There are two owner’s suites – one on the upper aft deck including a gymnasium, and one on the main fore deck featuring a starboard balcony. The guest space is housed on the lower deck and features two twins and two double cabins, all with ensuite bathrooms.
The concept will be presented at the 2012 Monaco Yacht Show.
She is due for delivery in June 2012, one of 12 yachts due for delivery between now and the end of 2015.
