Sunseeker has begun building its largest motoryacht to date, the 47m Sunseeker 155, in response to positive feedback received from the market on its 40m yacht and the Predator 130. “We have always reacted to customer’s wishes and demands and that is what we’ve done here,” explains design manager at Sunseeker, Jonathan Goldie. “We tried to do this project a few years ago but the economic climate wasn’t right and so we put it on hold.”

With a repeat client involved in the project at the early stages of design, a large majority of the superyacht has been customised. “The client is very happy with what we do, he has been with us for many years and has complete trust in us but he has been involved with the project for the last four years,” admits Goldie. “The actual arrangement is completely to his choosing.”

Able to accommodate a total of 12 guests and 10 crew, two double en suite and two twin en suite cabins are located amidships on the lower deck, with crew quarters forward of this towards the bow. Aft of this deck is the engine room, tender garage and a beach club at the stern with a bathing platform. The main deck features the master en suite cabin forward, with the galley aft of this area. The main salon and dining area are situated towards the aft of the vessel. “We will make the upper salon a really wonderful space for the owner and guests, with drop down balconies and expansive glass,” says Goldie.

Boasting an innovative layout and efficient hull design, the 155 is the first semi-displacement hull form from Sunseeker, which has been extensively developed by its in-house design team. The superyacht will be very lightweight, about 50 tonnes lighter than her competition in the same class, benefiting fuel efficiency and range, and addressing the growing demand for fuel-efficient vessels.

A conventional propulsion system comprised of MTU 4000 V12 M73L engines will achieve a maximum speed of 20 knots, with the incorporation of thrust bearings to minimize noise, fulfilling a major target of the design brief. However, future builds could reach up to 28 knots with the use of V16 or V20 engines.

Sunseeker's 155 is due to be presented at the 2014 London Boat Show.
