Operating since 1897 in Chelsea, Massachusetts, Chelsea Clock is the oldest clock company in America. Recognised for its quality heirloom clocks, the company also manufactures premium timepieces for the high-end nautical market.

“Since the turn of the 19th century, Chelsea Clock has been deeply rooted in a tradition of keeping time at sea,” says CEO JK Nicholas. “Our nautical clocks have sailed the seas with the US military and graced the ocean’s most impressive yachts. In WWII Chelsea Clocks were widely used on military vessels throughout the US Navy.”

The original Ship’s Bell clocks were so named because they chimed out the traditional ship’s watches—seafarers could tell the time even if they couldn’t see the clock, and now the Limited Edition Heritage Ship’s Bell clock joins the long line of fine clockwork.

The value of a Limited Edition is largely determined by the rarity and quality of the edition—in fact, just 20 units in brass and 20 in a nickel finish will be produced. To assure the authenticity of the Limited Edition series, each piece will be engraved with its edition number on the dial, on the movement and on the base. The solid brass dial is from Chelsea’s vintage inventory vault and features deeply-etched numerals and a hand-silvered finish. The base, designed by a respected New England craftsman, is made of the finest American hardwoods, then rubbed to a pristine finish and accented by an antique hand-painted trim. The bezel features an authentic ‘coined’ edge, a distinctive complement to this classic design.

The Chelsea Ship’s Bell mechanism features 364 parts, including gold-plated brass gears, hardened steel pinions and jeweled bearings. Mainsprings are hand-wound and the finished pieces are balanced and calibrated. Each clock comes with a 10-year warranty and costs US$4,000.
