New outdoor fabric collection launched by Extex
Suitable on board a superyacht, Plume takes inspiration from the texture and qualities of a bird's plumage…
Plume is the latest collection from luxury outdoor fabric specialist Extex. As the name suggests, the look and feel of the new collection takes inspiration from the aesthetics and texture of the layered feathers of a bird’s plumage. Designed for outdoor use, the Plume collection features a soft chenille surface and includes nine colour options, ranging from the neutral tones of Hero and Kestrel, to the more vivid and saturated shades of Rosefinch and Swallow.
In keeping with the inherent water repellence of a bird’s feathers, all Plume fabrics are treated to repel both stains and water, meaning it would be suitable on board a superyacht for use on outdoor deck furniture, as well as any indoor areas that get a lot of use, such as children’s play areas, or humid environments, such as spa treatment rooms.
“Woven using soft chenille yarns entwined with strong polyester filaments, the Plume fabrics have been designed with a clever combination of luxury and practicality,” explains Tandine Rawkins, design director of Extex. “They look and feel sumptuous yet are reassuringly easy to care for: they are all treated to be stain-resistant, water-repellent, light fast and machine washable, so the fabrics are easy for a yacht crew to keep looking as good as new.”
The design of the fabric is also influenced by the distinctive feather patterns of various birds’ plumage to create a unique woven textile, reminiscent of on-trend chevron compositions, and thus differentiating it from other water-repellent fabrics in the luxury market. “The chevron pattern is designed as a quirky take on classic herringbone, blending sophisticated style and softness,” adds Rawkins.
The range is designed to sit within the existing Extex collection and the subtle surface pattern can be complemented by the plain textures of the Mull and Fauna collections, or mixed and matched with other patterned collections, such as Outline, for a unique look. The Plume collection will be available from September 2018.
