During a press conference at the Four Seasons Hotel in Milan, Italy, Riva announced its first all-aluminium yacht and newest flagship. Designed by Mauro Micheli of Officina Italiana Design, the Bergamo-based team responsible for the design of all the Riva models, in collaboration with AYT (Advanced Yacht Technology), the Ferretti Group’s research and naval design centre, and Centro Stile Ferrettigroup, the first Riva 122ft (37.5m) Mythos is in build at the CRN shipyard in Ancona for a Brazilian client.

The arrival of the 122’ Mythos coincides with the 170th anniversary of the Riva brand (acquired by the Ferretti Group in 2000) and the 50th anniversary of the iconic Aquarama. As the largest Riva model to date, eclipsing the 35m Athena and with a new Ferretti Yachts flagship to be announced shortly, it also reflects the general upward trend in size in Ferretti Group production. The decision to build at the Group’s CRN shipyard (instead of Riva’s historic yard in Sarnico or newer base in La Spezia) was taken because of CRN’s experience in metalworking.

122’ Mythos

“Our idea is to initiate construction in Ancona of non-composite models that come under other brand names in the Ferretti Group, to take advantage of their experience in working in steel and aluminium,” responded Ferruccio Rossi, the newly appointed CEO of the Group when questioned by SuperyachtNews.com. “We decided to start this process with Riva, but we will not stop there and we will not stop at 122 feet. Obviously, as a group we look to maximise our resources and skills, at the same time maintaining that special ‘feeling’ that makes the Riva brand so special.”

This mission statement highlights the strategic partnership with the Weichai Group, under which the Group has reorganised its corporate operating structure with a focus on further strengthening the brands and engineering capabilities together with centralised product development. The new organisation focuses on the distinctive individuality of each brand with the manufacturing and brand management teams working to produce products in the ‘made in Italy’ tradition. At the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the Group further announced its intention to strengthen localised sales and distribution presence in key markets, including the integration of the North America and Latin American markets. The fact that the first client for the Mythos 122 is Brazilian is arguably a reflection of the evolving nature of these markets.

In terms of Riva heritage, the new Mythos 122 transfers defining brand features such as design flair, graceful lines and attention to detail, to a new line built entirely of light aluminium alloy, although the principle interior materials of the first unit are waiting to be confirmed by the owner.

“With the use of complex, three-dimensional glass that characterises its exterior profile, the Mythos 122 represents a larger scale continuation of the 26m Domino, a model that has sold successfully since its presentation in 2009 at the height of the financial crisis,” said Mauro Micheli, who founded Officina Italiana Design together with business partner Sergio Beretta. Micheli went on to compare the powerful but not overly aggressive design with the evergreen Aquariva, Rivarama and Rivale models.

With a maximum beam of 7.60m, interior layout provides for a three, four or five-cabin configuration and the planing hull is expected to cruise at 25 knots (with a top speed of 27 knots) when powered by twin MTU 12 V 4000 M 93L engines (2580 kW @2100 rpm).
