The Dubai Sea Limousine is really something that you have never seen before.  Designed by Dennis Ingemansson, an upcoming Swedish car designer, this tender concept received much scepticism when first revealed, with many believing it would never go into production.  The idea was that it would serve the 300 man-made artificial islands of Dubai as a discrete taxi service.  In January 2009, due to the interest that the design generated, a team of three were gathered to take the first steps into production.  Many of the technological ideas have been cut down to fit to budget costs, but the unique style and intent is still evident.

Dennis Ingemansson sees this design as “an idea full of passion to inspire the yacht world.” So much for the rhetoric, but is it practical? The tender is powered with solar cells integrated into the window skin and moves forward with hovercraft and jet stream technology.  It is controlled by a robotic satellite navigation system, so no human pilot is needed. When asked if this project would go ahead, SYD were told that they were involved with a shipyard “who believes in the fresh new style that Sea Limousine would bring to the market.” It is unclear how the economic downturn in Dubai will affect the project, but by 2012 this forward-thinking tender should be a reality.
