Simrad Yachting announces new RS35 radio and wireless handset

The RS35 combines a built-in dual-channel Automatic Identification System (AIS) receiver with innovative VHF functionality. Supporting two wireless handsets, the 25-watt RS35 is suitable for long-range use of up to 100 metres from the radio itself. The RS35 has been designed for navigating in congested areas such as busy shipping lanes or marinas, and both the radio and its wireless handset provide the ability to hear and be heard, for better safety on the water, as well as providing critical collision avoidance data from additional AIS-equipped vessels in range, the information made accessible includes vessel name, type, call sign, MMSI number, IMO number, draught and size, vessel position, speed over ground, course over ground, rate of turn, heading, status, destination and ETA.
The RS35 VHF radio is equipped with a 128 x 156-pixel LCD display measuring 1.3 x 2.6 inches, has adjustable backlighting and and a 57mm built-in speaker with 4 Watt output, which also allows for the connection of additional speakers. Its microphone offers six keys, an easy-grip rubber moulding cover for secure holding, and an additional speaker for noisy environments. Additional features include a large rotary knob, dedicated menu, weather and channel keys, separate volume and squelch knobs and a distress button. The radio delivers all USA, Canadian and International marine channels, and features selectable Dual and TriWatch modes, 20 user-programmable names with MMSI, and a PA and hailer horn output for automatic fog signals and a listen back function.
The compact Class D DSC Simrad HS35 Wireless Handset features a high-resolution, 180 x 128-pixel LCD display, built-in speaker and microphone, and dedicated AIS function. The device operates for up to eight hours on a single battery charge, and when charging is necessary, has an induction plate for ease and convenience. It The Designed for long-range use, the handset has a ‘push to talk’ key, and as such can act as an intercom between other HS35 or RS35 base stations. It can also be programmed via USB connection, and includes a headphone jack and belt clip for ease of use.
The radio is NMEA 2000 and 0183 compatible, offers selectable 25/1-watt transmit power and comes with flush-mount kit and sun cover, while both radio and handset are waterproof to the IPx7 standard.

The Simrad RS35 fixed-mount VHF/AIS and HS35 Wireless Handset will be available as of February 2013 from authorised dealers throughout the United States and Canada for $399 and $169 respectively.
