Week in Superyacht Brokerage: Momentum and Calaf sold

17 – 23 January 2012: The disappointing news of fourteen price reductions this week was counteracted by the announcement of two superyacht sales by Oceanstyle and YPI, showing signs of positive activity within the industry in the first month of 2012.…

Superyacht brokerage activity during the week dating 17 – 23 January showed signs of improvement. Superyachts Momentum and Calaf were sold this week, which counteracted the week's somewhat disappointing news of fourteen price reductions. With two yacht sales this week, compared to zero last week, brokerage activity in January is improving, which we hope to see continue throughout the following months.

Yacht Sales

Two superyacht sales were confirmed this week – two more than last week.

Oceanstyle announced the sale of the 32.6m motoryacht Momentum, a 2006 Nedship who was asking €2.95 million at the time of sale. The second sale of the week was announced by YPI, who sold the 37.79m motoryacht Calaf, a 1992 Heesen (refit in 2007) who was officially off the market, and as a result no asking price was available from YPI.

New Central Agencies

Five new central agencies were announced this week - one more than last week - two of which were announced by Bradford Marine Yacht Sales, though all but one were below 30m.

Motoryachts Justine and Mr. Ed are now for sale with Bradford Marine Yacht Sales. Justine, a 1987 29.56m Couach, is asking $1.25 million, and Mr. Ed, a 1991 (refit in 2009) 29.57m Mairo, is asking $975,000, $175,000 less than its previous listing with International Yacht Collection.

International Yacht Collection confirmed the addition of one motoryacht to its sales listings this week: the 28m Lazzara New Life, built in 2009, is asking €5.25 million.  Fraser Yachts also confirmed it will handle the sale of the 26.49m Azimut Ines, a 2008 build, asking €2.95 million.

Elsewhere, Denison Yacht Sales announced it will handle the sale of the only new central agency above 30m this week. The 2006 30.51m motoryacht Northstar 101' is for sale and asking $6.1 million.

Price Reductions

Yet again price reductions saw the most activity this week, with fourteen reductions confirmed – the highest weekly figure since the start of 2012.

The biggest reductions, however, took place on the largest yachts involved in brokerage activity this week. Ocean Independence reduced Titan, a 60.4m motoryacht, built by Brooke in 1968 and refit in 2005. She was reduced by a significant €5 million to a new price of €21.9 million. The reduction of the 61.8m RoMa, however, was by far the largest reduction to take place this week. The joint listing by Merle Wood and Edmiston, built by Viareggio in 2010, was reduction by €9.05 million ($11,703,460) to €39.9 million.

Following two reductions last week, International Yacht Collection reduced a further three of its motoryachts this week. The 1994 32.31m Westship Galilee was reduced to $2.545 million, while the 2000 (refit in 2010) 36.58m Anna J had her price lowered by €1 million to a new price of €3.95 million. One of the largest price reductions this week took place on the 57.91m Mi Sueno. International Yacht Collection confirmed the 2010 Trinity had been reduced by $5.9 million to a $48.9 million.

The only sailing yacht involved in brokerage activity was Fraser Yachts’ reduction of the 30.48m Garuda. The Nautor Swan, built in 1986 and refit in 2010, was reduced by €450,000 to €1.2 million. Fraser Yachts also reduced the 40.8m motoryacht RC. The price of the 2004 Baglietto, which was refit in 2010, was lowered by €2.8 million to €9.7 million.

RJC Yacht Sales also reduced two of its motoryachts this week. The 2001 44.2m Trinity, Relentless, was reduced by $600,000 to $13.9 million, while the 1994 34.7m Hatteras, My Marilyn, had its second reduction this month. After being reduced at the start of the year, she has been reduced once more, and down by $500,000 she is asking $2.995 million.

Elsewhere, YPI reduced the 45m Tatiana, a Bilgin motoryacht built just last year, by €600,000 to €14.9 million, while Yachtzoo reduced Namaste, a 39.62m motoryacht built by Westport in 2010, by $245,000 to $18.25 million, and Van der Vilet reduced the 37.9m motoryacht Perle Bleue by $2 million. The 2007 Hakvoort, which was refit in 2010, is now asking $13.9 million.

Only two yachts below 30m were reduced this week. Ekka Yachts announced the lowered price of €1.6 million for the 25m San Lorenzo 82’, built in 2004, whilst Allied Marine reduced the 27.43m motoryacht Ocean Models by $105,000. The 1995 Baratucci is now asking $895,000.
