Next week on the 25th and 26th June, the design community will gather once again within the famous domes of Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour for The Superyacht Design Forum. Over the last few months, we have devised a programme that takes an entirely new approach to the event this year; based around the mantra of ‘An External Perspective’. The aim next week is to provide delegates with the tools they need to look at our industry – and indeed the issues faced in the superyacht industry with a fresh pair of eyes and catalyse some real change.

While it’s easy to speculate how things in the superyacht industry could be improved via internal discussions, next week we are showcasing the opinions and success stories from those who have achieved pioneering feats elsewhere and learn from their achievements. This is an unprecedented opportunity for those in attendance to interact with leading lights from complimentary industries, whose achievements are unparalleled, that all of us within the superyacht industry can learn from.

For such a small industry, there are a disproportionately large number of superyacht events held throughout the calendar. So, it’s not surprising that when it comes to the subject of design there is likely to be a handful of people in the room who have heard it all before, which is why we decided to look beyond the world of superyacht design and do something truly exciting and truly different.

Opening the Forum on Tuesday, French architect, visionary, and Ted Talk speaker Arthur Mamou-Mani will share his perspective on the superyacht industry, drawing knowledge from the cutting-edge technology that his award-winning studio famously uses on a daily basis. During this opening session, he will take us through the real potential of renewable materials and sustainable processes, a topic our industry often shies away from.

During the course of the two days, delegates will discover the reality of hydrogen technology in the superyacht industry as we take a closer look at its implementation aboard vessels and what we can expect beyond 2019, as Mayfair Marine’s Technical Manager, Ivo Veldhuis takes to the stage on the first day of the Forum

And, on the subject of sustainability, Dan Lenard, will take us on a rare journey that will inspire and inform, as he tells delegates of his incredible transatlantic crossing onboard Scia – a 33ft sloop on a mission to save our seas.
