ITALY, Ancona. On June 6th, Wider Yachts invited members of the press to view progress on the Wider 150 in build. Although renders and videos have already been released, it is only now with major welding of the hull and superstructure blocks due to be completed next month that the attending journalists were able to have a concrete idea what the finished yacht will look like.

The 46m all-aluminium displacement motoryacht, designed by Fulvio de Simoni with naval architecture by Sydac, represents a leap in size of no less than 33m in comparison with the Wider 42’, of which 14 units have been sold to date. The superyacht has been ordered by Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, the Malaysian industrialist who has a 50 per cent stake in the Wider brand and has been on the company’s board of directors since December 2012. Construction has also started on the Wider 165 and the first block was lying alongside its smaller sister ship in the shed.

“Our aim has always been to produce something different from what is already available on the market,” said company president and founding partner Tilli Antonelli. “Along with innovative exterior styling and a drive-in tender bay, the 150 features a full diesel-electric propulsion system with azimuthing pods—unique on a superyacht of this size.”

The drive-in tender bay on the 150 has been designed to take the Wider 32, the brand new sports cruiser, which was presented on the water in Ancona for the first time. As you would expect from the brand, the 9.6m tender is different from anything else on the market with its axe-shaped bow, two-tone livery and low transom. Below deck, the cabin is furnished with two facing sofas that provide comfortable seating for entertaining or ship-to-shore transportation and convert into berths for overnight stays on board.

There is even a compact galley, equipped with sink, stove ring and refrigerator integrated into the contemporary cabinetry. A surprisingly large head with shower is housed in the bow.

Twin 260hp Mercruiser Turbo Diesel engines coupled with Bravo 1 DTS stern drives, the power package delivers a cruising speed of 30 knots and a top speed of 37 knots.
