MarQuip prepared for Tier III
MarQuip receives IMO Tier III compliant engineering order and also appoints new agent in Turkey.…
Dutch exhaust specialist MarQuip has received an order for comprehensive IMO Tier III and EPA Tier IV exhaust engineering from a leading shipyard, whereby, only MarQuip can assume complete system responsibility. MarQuip has also signed a new agreement with an agent to increase its presence in the Turkish market.
Having been involved in the Tier III process since its innception, MarQuip has designed, engineered and delivered the complete scope of components necessary for compliant exhaust systems. “We are also the bridge builder between shipyard, classification company and engine supplier”, explains Dennis Bravenboer, MarQuip’s general manager sales.
“MarQuip is privileged to be a part of this innovative and ground-breaking endeavour which will set new standards in exhaust systems for superyachts,” continues Bravenboer. “As a leading designer and producer of superyacht (sail and motor) exhaust systems, we are well ahead of the game when it comes to the new IMO emission regulations.”
The new IMO Tier III regulations, due to be implemented on 1 January 2016, relate to the control of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions on board vessels that have their keels laid on or beyond the new year and that wish to travel in MARPOL Annex VI emission control areas (ECA’s). Currently these areas include the Baltic Sea, North Sea, North American ECA and the Caribbean Sea ECA. The new regulations will see a 74% reduction in NOx emissions compared to Tier II.
Also new to MarQuip is the addition of Nemo Marin as its Turkish agent. The partnership officially started in February and has already borne fruit with the two companies discussing exhaust possibilities with a number of Turkish shipyards.
Nemo Marin represents a number of various marine equipment suppliers in Turkey. The resulting range showcases a broad choice of complementary equipment for the marine industry. The addition of a Turkish agent to MarQuips existing Italian agent – as of 2014 - highlights and strengthens the exhaust specialists’ strategy of increasing and reinforcing its presence in the Mediterranean region.
