DAMEN launches its first SeaXplorer
The Polar Class luxury expedition yacht is scheduled to be handed to owners in 2020…
The DAMEN SeaXplorer range was introduced to the market in 2015 following a collaborative approach to the project that included the creation of a team of experts including the SeaXplorer design team, the Damen Research Laboratory, Azure Yacht Design and EYOS Expeditions, providing hundreds of operational design features based on their expedition experience.
DAMEN has now launched its first SeaXplorer luxury expedition yacht, having recently emerged from her building hall in the Netherlands. The 62m custom-designed yacht is scheduled to be handed over to her owners in 2020, and will be the first delivery from the DAMEN SeaXplorer range offered by yacht builder AMELS and DAMEN.
At The Superyacht Forum 2019, where we will be ‘Building for the Next Generation’, our workshops will consider how each sector will prepare for superyacht owners of the future. One of the key points to consider for our delegates and our array of panellists and speakers will be how these next-gen owners will use their vessels compared to current and historic owners. As found with the 62m SeaXplorer, the yacht is Polar Class and has expedition facilities for 30 days of autonomy, enabling the owner with vast itinerary options and allowing for dynamic use of the vessel beyond the Med.
She also benefits from a fully certified helideck and helicopter hangar, as well as two large tender garages and a dive store, while a Siemens BlueDrive system with three variable speed generator sets and DV bus generates the power onboard. In combination with electrical propulsion motors and a battery pack, the yacht has an economical and environmentally conscious configuration – another increasingly key factor for future owners.
Featuring a customised design with naval architecture completed by Damen’s in-house design team, the 62m expedition yacht displays exterior lines by Azure Yacht Design. Carlo Torre from Monaco Yacht Temptation was chosen by the owners to execute the interior design, while the Fraser technical team have supervised the build.
The outfitting of the DAMEN SeaXplorer took place at the Vlissingen East Yard, near to the yacht builder’s Vlissingen City yard where AMELS yachts are completed.
