In the lead up to METSTRADE and The Superyacht Forum, AkzoNobel’s Awlgrip brand has revealed details of an innovative new high-performance filler, which is set to provide an array of benefits to the yacht coatings market. Named Awlfair SF, the new filler technology has been described as ‘revolutionary’, due to its ‘easy application’ and ‘superior aesthetics’.

Being applied by pressurised airless spray rather than hand application, AkzoNobel has highlighted that Awlfair SF allows for wet-on-wet application, as well as the application of up to two coatings per day without the need for sanding between coats. Through the use of a specified spraying machine, Awlfair SF can be applied at an estimated rate of five liters per minute. AkzoNobel has confirmed that the new superyacht filler is perfect for fairing, levelling or smoothing surface imperfections.

The formulation of Awlfair SF gives flexibility and robustness, strengthening the integrity of the yacht paint system, while spray application eliminates air pockets during application, resulting in reduced reworking and improved aesthetics.
